5 ways to repurpose your candle jars

Burning your favourite candle for the last time can be bittersweet. As many candles come in decorative jars and holders it can feel like a waste to simply throw them away. Here are five ways you can turn your empty candle jar into something useful.

Make a new candle

Of course, candle jars are just that – jars made for candles. It makes sense to use it to house another candle. Either use your jar for tea light candles, buy a new one the same size or make your own from scratch using beeswax or soy wax.

Vases

One of the simplest ways to reuse a candle jar is to turn it into a vase. Fill your jar with some of your favourite flowers and place it on your desk or dining table to add some colour and fragrance to your home. Alternatively, tie them up with a ribbon and gift them to a friend or family member.

Turn candle jars into pot plants or terrariums

Turn your candle jar into your latest DIY project by turning it into a succulent planter or terrarium. This is a more complicated way to repurpose old candle jars and add some greenery to your home décor. Succulents also make great gifts, as they are low-maintenance and easy to look after.

Storage

Empty candle jars are the perfect size to help keep your desk, kitchen and bathroom in order. They can be used to store pens, rubber bands, paper clips, organise pantry items or hold toiletries like makeup and toothpaste. Glass jars are easy to clean and usually seal well, making them ideal for storing baking goods and lollies while keeping them away from ants and other pests.

Hot chocolate mixes

Make your own cocoa mix and fill your clean candle jar with hot chocolate powder, marshmallows, choc chips and other sweet treats. Hot chocolate jars are perfect for gifts or for treating yourself on a cold winter’s day.
